PANDEMIC PAY

Official direction has come out for pandemic pay and the guidance documents have created a bit more confusion than answers.  The good news is that we have interpreted Ministry documents regarding overtime to extend to the $4 per “worked hour” premium, so that adjustment will be on the next pay with any applicable retro (ie. $6 extra per overtime hours rather than $4).  We have confirmation on how to treat the $250 per month lump sum so the first two month periods will be on the next pay as well.  PT Vacation %’s will also be applied to the pandemic pay as we interpret the new Ministry documentation to be treating the amounts as “pseudo-regular” pay rather than bonuses.  Perhaps the Province should have worked all of this out before April 24th.

AUDIT BY MINSITRY OF LABOUR RE: COVID PRACTICES

Our friends at the Ministry of Labour stopped by for a second Field Visit regarding our COVID practices. This appointment was a more in-depth look at policies and how they are being followed by staff.  From well over a hundred areas of enquiry, there were only two adjustments that they wanted the Home and staff to make.  Congratulations everyone!  The Compliance Report has been posted on the JOHSC board on the fourth floor and I will attach it to this email for anyone in other bubbles that would like to read it.  Our Inspector did emphasize the importance of wearing face shields when providing resident care or feeding. The use of a face shield is their expectation moving forward.

ADDITIONS TO BUBBLES

With the return of family visits (outside) comes an increased demand for portering time.  On the plus side, we brought back our PT assistants from Achieva to take care of this portering and to help staff on each RHA.  It’s more money that we hope is covered by the Province but it will be a time limited need until they move to in-Home visits (I have no idea when that will be), and we feel that existing staff could not do their regular jobs and porter/supervise visits.  PTAs will, when not busy, be able to help feed, etc.  Please welcome them into your RHA teams.

SUPPLIES

While we continue to source surgical masks from many different sources, we are also using more than ever due to the need provide masks for Residents who have visitors, and the need to discard masks after caring for Residents in isolation.  Please continue to conserve masks as much as possible.

FIRST NAMED BUBBLE

Westview 2 has become the fist bubble to change it’s name.  They are “The Dream Garden Squad” and, as you can see below, they have decorated their family crest with common catch phrases from their Residents:

“Oh shit!”

“You ho” (apparently this was supposed to be “you-hoo!”)

“No hell!”

“I’m a little crooked.”

“All mine!”

“Charge!” – my favourite

Awesome.  Remember that any materials that other Bubble dwellers buy to make up their signs will be reimbursed out of petty cash

Please consider all Fairhaven COVID-19 Employee Bulletins to be official notifications of consultation with the Fairhaven Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee.
