Teen Volunteers
Our teen volunteer program runs through the summer each year with a goal of recruiting individuals that are in the process of completing their 40 hours of mandatory community involvement to graduate from high school.
Requirements
Age: Applicants must be 13 to 18 years of age by June 30 th of the summer they are volunteering.
Time Commitment: Minimum of 1 shift per week (Monday- Friday) of approximately 2-3 hours in length, in the morning or afternoon.
Date: The program runs from the first Monday in July- the last Friday in August.
Qualifications:
– Friendly, Courteous, Responsible, and Dependable
– Interested in working with seniors
Dress Code: A Fairhaven T-shirt and name badge will be provided and must be worn at all times while volunteering. Pants, skirts (knee length), or walking shorts (knee length) are acceptable with the T-shirt. Shoes must be non- slip with a closed toe and heel (running shoes are great).
Volunteer Placements: Teen volunteers assist in various areas throughout Fairhaven. Teens may be involved and assist in such areas as:
Café
Entertainment
Gardening
Assisting at mealtime
Physiotherapy
Hairdressing
Music
Resident programs
Special Events and Outings
Registration Requirements: The first step in becoming a Fairhaven volunteer is to go through an interview process with the Volunteer Resources Coordinator. All prospective volunteers must complete a registration package which includes:
- A signed parental consent form (if under the age of 18)
- Forms to read over and sign
- Two written reference forms (not completed by relatives)
- Proof of double vaccination for covid
- A handbook to read over
Completed registration packages should be received no later than the second Friday in June.
Orientation: All new teen volunteers, once accepted and registration packages are complete, must attend a MANDATORY orientation day on a date set up by the Volunteer Resources Coordinator.
