I heard that some folks were disappointed that the first $250 monthly premium was not on the last pay.  I feel bad about that, because we have tried to be proactive in getting all of your money out to you in accordance with the weekly time periods mandated by the Province.  We held off on the first $250 because the government promised us detailed guidelines on the whole pandemic pay process and we didn’t want to go out even further out on a limb before receiving the details.  The second monthly period has just ended (it is not the same weekly periods that we follow for payroll) but we really can’t pay it yet because of potential changes/adjustments that could still come in for worked hours so you will receive an extra $250 on this pay and another extra $250 on the following payroll.

The guidelines published by the Ministry were not exactly as detailed as they could have been, but we are also making the following assumptions that are being made retroactively to the start of the program:

Even though the $4 is described throughout the legislation as not forming the basis of regular pay, and that it is supposed to be applied just to “each worked hour,” we have decided to interpret the guidance liberally and are now providing $6 extra for every OT hour worked and to every stat holiday hour worked.  Vacation pay %’s will also be applied to all of the pandemic pay so part time vacation banks will be higher and the value of vacation hours earned by full time and preferred part time employees will be higher.

We were excited to see the pandemic pay rolled out in April and we have done everything we can to scrap together information to get your money paid out from the beginning when the program was meant to start.  Thanks for your patience with little blips like this.
